The programme

Krav maga course in three levels

At Fightless you follow a programme of three levels. It is competency based: you move on when you can do it, not when the calendar says so. That way you always know where you stand and what the next step is.

  1. 1

    Level 1

    Basics and confidence

The foundation. You learn to train safely, to use your body and the skills the rest builds on.

    After this level you can

    • Hold a stable stance, even when someone tries to push you off balance.
    • The basics of punches, kicks, elbows and hammer fists, clean and with control.
    • Recognise chokes and get out of them safely, standing and on the ground.
    • Stay calm and make a choice in simple stressful situations.
  2. 2

    Level 2

    Control and application

You apply what you can do, now under light pressure. It is about consistency: it has to work when you are tired or taken by surprise too.

    After this level you can

    • Carry out techniques while your partner resists and the pace is higher.
    • Build combinations instead of single movements.
    • Hold your fitness and focus until the end of a drill.
    • Recognise when stepping back beats carrying on.
  3. 3

    Level 3

    Depth and instinct

You no longer have to think. You react, and you keep your head clear. This is the level you hold on to.

    After this level you can

    • React without first working out which technique fits.
    • Keep your head clear in more complex scenarios.
    • Help others during practice without it becoming unsafe.
    • A level you maintain with two training sessions a week.

Exams

Every level ends with an exam

You show what you can do and you hear where you stand. An exam is not a formality: it confirms the material is really there before you move on.

You only go up once the instructor sees you are ready, so you never sit it unprepared. If something is not consistent yet, you know exactly what to work on over the coming weeks.

Kids

The Level 1 exam follows after eight to ten weeks. For children it is above all a proud moment: they show the group what they have learned in a short time.

Adults

You take the exam as soon as the skills are consistently there. There is no date for it. The instructor tells you when the time has come.

Class build-up

Each group has its own build-up

Both groups train on Tuesday and Thursday, with a fixed build-up that differs per group. A class with eight year olds simply runs differently from a class with adults.

Kids

ages 8 to 16, 19:30 tot 20:30
  1. 1

    Coming in

Everyone comes in and we go over the ground rules of the gym again.
  2. 2

    Games as a warm-up

Tag and reaction drills. Play holds their attention and warms the body up.
  3. 3

    One technique

A single thing per class, in short blocks of a few minutes with plenty of repetition.
  4. 4

    Practice against resistance

With a partner or on the pad, always as a game and never at full contact.
  5. 5

    Closing

What went well, and one thing to practise at home. Often something about standing up for yourself.

Adults

17 and over, 20:30 tot 21:30
  1. 1

    Check-in

A short arrival, attention on the room, and a word if there is anything the instructor should take into account.
  2. 2

    Warm-up

Building up calmly, mobility and strength, so your body can take the class.
  3. 3

    Technique block

One technique step by step, slow and clean first, then up to speed.
  4. 4

    Under pressure

Applied in a realistic scenario, with resistance, pace and fatigue.
  5. 5

    Wrap-up

Cooling down, a short look back and naming what went better than last time.

Kids and adults

Two groups, two classes

What stays the same: control over force and visible progress. What differs: the material, the pace and the way a class is built up.

Kids

The emphasis is on de-escalation, standing up for themselves and trusting their own body. The STOP drill comes back in almost every class: step back, hands up and say stop loud and clear. Lots of play, lots of repetition.

Adults

You work on realistic close range scenarios, including the basics of ground work and the first forms against several attackers. With control, at a pace that suits the group.
