Self-defence for adults in Maastricht
You train practical self-defence built on how things really happen: up close, out of nowhere and under pressure. You work on your fitness and on a quieter head at the same time. Twice a week, at your own level.

Sound familiar?
Why people walk in here
- You are switched on all day and your head keeps going in the evening.
- Exercise has been slipping for months and your fitness shows it.
- When something happens on the street or at work, you only know afterwards what you wanted to do.
- Saying no works better in your head than in the moment itself.
You do not have to recognise anything on this list to start. Plenty of people simply come because they want to move and learn something that holds up.
What you get out of it
Three things you notice outside the gym
Calm and focus
A quieter head and less tension in your body
Your head keeps spinning and your body stays tense, even on a day off. In the gym you can only do one thing: look, breathe, move. The result: you walk out emptier than you walked in.
Sure in confrontation
Stand stronger and surer in difficult situations
An unpleasant situation leaves you unsure, and only at home do you know what you should have said. Here you practise realistic scenarios, calmly first and under pressure after that. The result: you choose instead of freezing.
Fitter and stronger
Get fitter, stronger and more energetic
Sitting all day, and exercise never quite happens. Every class is movement, strength and repetition, built up from the level you are at. The result: your fitness climbs without a gym routine to keep up.
What a class looks like
Every class follows the same build-up
- 1
Check-in
A short arrival, attention on the room, and a word if there is anything the instructor should take into account. - 2
Warm-up
Building up calmly, mobility and strength, so your body can take the class. - 3
Technique block
One technique step by step, slow and clean first, then up to speed. - 4
Under pressure
Applied in a realistic scenario, with resistance, pace and fatigue. - 5
Wrap-up
Cooling down, a short look back and naming what went better than last time.
No experience needed
You start with the basics and practise with someone who takes that into account. The drill adapts to you, not the other way around.
Control over force
Nobody is hit hard. You practise so that both of you come away having learned something.
The programme
Three levels, each with an exam
Level 1
Basics and confidence
Standing stable under pressure, the basics of striking and kicking, and getting free of a grab safely.
Level 2
Control and application
The same techniques while your partner resists, at a higher pace and for longer.
Level 3
Depth and instinct
Reacting without thinking it through, and keeping your head when things get messy.
At the end of a level you take an exam, and it is a real one. You only go up once the instructor sees you are ready, so you never sit it unprepared.

Your first class
Come ten minutes before the start, so there is time to say hello and tell us what you want out of the training. You train with the whole group, first time or not.
What do you bring?
Sportswear, clean indoor shoes and a bottle of water. For your first classes you borrow what you need from the gym. If you keep coming, buy your own mouthguard, shin guards and gloves: cleaner, and a better fit.
Questions from beginners
Frequently asked questions about self-defence for adults
Do I have to be fit to start?
No. You set your own pace and the drills are adapted to what you can handle. The fitness follows on its own, which is one of the reasons people keep coming back.
Is it dangerous?
We train with control and nobody is hit hard. You work at the pace you and your partner can handle, and it only goes up when that is right. Mention anything that is playing up and the instructor will work around it.
Am I too old for this?
There is no upper age limit. What your body can handle differs per person and per day, and the drill is adapted to that. Technique and timing count for more here than strength.
Do men and women train together?
Yes, the group is mixed. You practise with different partners, because in real life you do not get to pick who is in front of you either. Say so if you would rather work with someone else.
What does it cost after the trial class?
An adults membership starts at € 32,00 a month. Classes run on Tuesday and Thursday from 20:30 to 21:30, and you decide whether you come once or twice a week. See all memberships.
